Smoltz? Really?

john smoltz.jpgRecently, in a report I read on Metsblog.com, it was noted that the Mets have expressed interest in free agent pitcher John Smoltz. Smoltz, as we all know is a hall of fame pitcher, with great career numbers with 200 wins and 150 saves. The problem with this guy is his age. Smoltz is FORTY TWO YEARS OLD! The Mets already have enough question marks in their rotation, and now they are going to seriously go out and sign a 42 year old former BRAVE (remember what glavine did to us) to a contract? This would be a horrible move for the team. The move would probably generate the same results that Livan’s deal ended up with last year. Instead, the Mets need to sign a young guy like Ben Sheets, Jon Garland or Joel Piniero to a 2 year deal until Jon Niese is all ready to compete in the major leagues. I will be truly dissapointed if John Smoltz is on the New York Mets roster next season.

Look for Big Pelf to have a Big Year

bigggggg pelffyy.jpgLast year, Mike Pelfrey’s season was all but a disaster. However, 2008 was much more promising. In 2008, Mike Pelfrey posted a 3.72 ERA while pitching two stellar complete games. In 2009, Pelfrey started off decent just like he did in 2008. When the injuries began to plague the Mets, Pelfrey’s season went down hill. While dealing with stress from the horrid season, as well as the birth of his new child Chase, Pelfrey had some mental issues that were distracting him from the task at hand.

When I went down to Spring Training in 2009, I saw a very motivated Pelfrey. He hustled and was putting in 110%, and I am certain that after a dismal 2009, he is going to head down to Port St. Lucie a different man. He is going to give 200% this season and I KNOW he is going to have a breakout year. I will try to contact Big Pelf and see what is going on with him, training wise and how he is preparing for 2010.
I believe with an improved offense and defense, as well as hopefully a pitching staff along with improved catchers, Big Pelf will have an outstanding season. I predict he is a 16 game winner while posting a 3.52 ERA and pitching 4 complete games. Look for success out of the big guy this year. The stars are all aligned for this man to breakout.
By the way, Brooklyn Met Fan is selling Go Big Pelf shirts. I myself am an owner of one and I highly suggest that every Met fan if they can afford the shirt, go out and buy one. Support your team and GO BIG PELF!
